- On November 23, 1942, Soviet troops counterattacked in Stalingrad (Volgograd). The Red Army breaks through and traps the German army in the city.

Since Hitler forbids the German army from surrendering, it endures another two months without supplies and finally capitulates on February 2, 1943.
