STREET ART IN ATHENS

Athens is a city that's strongly connected to street art: everywhere, from the city center to the suburbs, you can find amazing and breathtaking pieces of art. The culture is so influenced by this way of expression, that even a street art studies programme is run by the Athens School of Fine Arts. The movement of street art is also sustained by the Athens Municipality, that sets up various creative projects to promote it.

The subjects represented by the artists are various: from colourful and majestically painted murals, to rebellious and protest-driven, more spontaneous street art.

Some of the most famous locations where lots of street art works can be found, are the neighborhoods of modern Exarchia, Psyrri, Anafiotika, Gazi and lastly the Metaxourgeio district.
